when i was 11 years old my dad told me guacamole was made from lobster livers (which, in my defense, are green and mushy and look like guacamole) and from then until i was 20 i thought i was eating seafood every time we ordered mexican. i learned the truth, painfully, at a university student council meeting where, while planning a mexican fiesta party, i was nearly laughed out of the board room after expressing my budgetary concerns over “how will we afford all the lobsters to make the guacamole?”
this isn’t a joke. and, today, i found a picture of the exact day with the exact lobster where this tale of my destroyed innocence begins…
