so i’m almost always reading at least one book about the history of a colour. this morning i finished, for the second time, “the anthropology of turquoise.” it’s one of my favourite books ever now. it’s not so much a historical examination as it is an artistic, spiritual road-trip guided by the hunt to find a colour. ellen meloy was an artist, writer, environmentalist, and naturalist. she delves deep into the poetry and psychology of our human connection to colour, landscape,  the natural world, and our own emotions and imaginations. i’ve never ready anything so perfectly succinct and complete as her descriptions of human beings are drawn to the aquamarine in water, the blue of the sky.
